We went to see Battir Valley =)
The tour we been with is planned to prevent the plan of building the separation fence in it. We, Of course, against it =)
This place is special for 2 reasons:
The first – it was where the city of Betar was (the city of Bar Kochba – That lead the revolt against the Romans. And for him we celebrate lag BaOmer).
The second is that place might be declared as UNESCO Heritage site – It is still preserve the old agriculture of the mountains of Jerusalem: The System is built in valleys where springs are found and the water are set to the fields with a very simple system of tunnels.
Between 1948 and 1967, The village and valley of Battir were in Jordan while Emek Refaim (to which Battir stream is flowing to, and the trains to Jerusalem are passing through) was belong to Israel. Israel demanded to built a security fence on the same the place the new fence is planned to be built. The villagers signed on a fact that declared that they are responsible for the safety of the train at that part, and no fence was built.
This is the way the treaty between us and them should be – based on profits. When they know they have something to lose, fighting becomes not such a bad option =)
