Sumidero Canyon
Chiapas
Mexico
There aren’t so many rivers in Israel, as you have probably noticed.
We have the Jordan river, although it is probably should be consider as a stream =) I am telling you this so you will understand that I don’t have so much experience in rivers. And not so much experience in taking a boat on them.
The Grijalva River in the amazing Sumidero Canyon is something else. It is a river =)
Taking a boat trip up the river, is something else then kayaking down the Jordan river. And getting to the end of the tour and get to the dam is really different…Especially when there is no damn Dam!…
Of course there is a dam… I just got disoriented… We were going down the stream =) and not up the stream as I thought we are.
I got experience in navigation, but as I said I don’t have experience in rivers =)

The new Bridge and the old bridge over the Grijalva River
The entrance gate to the park =) Everybody raise their hands so the the guards can see the entrance bracelets.
Let the journey begin!
A face on one of the cliffs
The highest cliff in the canyon, over 1000 m high!
The entrance to the canyon. That picture is the sign of Chiapas state.
One of the small streams that feeds the river.
Although the cleaning and education efforts the people of the villages around the river still use the river as their trash can.
A cave in the cliffs, used as a worship place.
Look at the colors of the rocks.
A waterfall of one of the streams
The Christmas tree Waterfall =)
Where is that Dam?!
oh… we are above it..
On the way back
American crocodiles -They sit down with their open mouths, like they are some Lacoste commercial and suddenly jump into the water, scary… =o
A speed boat like the one we were on…
Sitting in the front with our legs up =)
On the climbing up road, back to San Cristobal de La Casas
