Har Adar, Israel
Hi,
We spent that weekend in my parents house in Har Adar, with snow

You know this place, you have spent couple of days here in your last visit to Israel. And nathan had probably show you the wonderful views from the memorial on top of the mountain =)

Therefore, there was no point of sending you pictures of it. But now I do have….

Snow! It is the first time I have been to the Har Adar when it is snowing. Ima and Aba moved to Har Adar about two years ago, and somehow those have been very hard winters: Last winter had a blizzard that lasted for 3 days and paralyzed Jerusalem and its surroundings for another week. This winter had already had 2 snow blizzards. I couldn’t have miss the third one 😉

Take Care
Gad

“The ‘Rader Hill’ is 880 m high and has a panoramic view of half of Israel.
In WWI, the mountain was conquered by a British unit commanded by General Alenbi after an hard fight
In WWII the British built a Radar to find and locate the German-Italian aircrafts. The name Har-Adar come from that Radar.
In the Independence War there was a battle between the British unit that set here and the armored vehicles of the Palmach, that was on its way to rescue another force from the battle of Nabi-Samwil. The Israeli soldiers that were injured in this battle were given by the British to the Arab forces that murdered them.
Two weeks later, the British gave the place to the Arab forces. In May 13th it was captured by Harel unit of the Palmach and was hold by Hish from Jerusalem.
In 19th of May the post fell to the hands of the Jordanian Legion. Two attempts by the Palmach to retake it failed.
Between 1948-1967 the mountain was in the hands of the Jordanian Legion, that fortified it against attacks. In the 6 days War, the post was taken the Radar hill post by a the Armored unit of Harel.”

The fourth battalion of the Palmach (What will be in the future Harel Brigade)
was sent on the night of 22-23 of April 1947 on foot from the ‘Castel’, via Seih Abed El-Aziz to take over the village and ridge of Nabi-Samwil.
The first target, Beit-Iksa village, was attacked and conquered after several counter attacks in 02:00
This fight made all the forces around the village into alert.
The force that was supposed to attack Nabi-Samwil got there only after the sun rise, and attacked with day light. The attack failed, and many soldiers were injured and killed. Among them the commander of the force.
A force of 4 armored vehicles to rescue the above force, got out of Ma’ale Ha’Hamisha on the way that goes via the Radar Post and Bido village, and was stopped by an Arab force with British help from the Radar post. It retreated back to Ma’ale Ha’Hamisha.
38 Soldiers were killed that day (23 on Nabi Samuel and 15 more from the rescue team), and 40 were injuried.
