Golan Heights, Israel
Hi,
Atza and I first wedding anniversary!
So we decided on a trip with a subject – Fire!… well, not exactly – more like Volcanoes…. inactive (dormant) volcanoes… =P
The only place we have volcanoes here in Israel is the Golan Heights. So we packed our stuff (we forgot a lot of things, like the Poyke pot, so we had to come back), and start driving.
The Golan Heights is basically a plateau. The only mountains on it are dormant volcanoes, this why the Israeli-Syrian border is starch along their line. we drove from one to another – learning about the Volcanoes, watching the view (Israeli an Syrian) and some history:
The Golan Heights were one of the fronts of Yom Kippur War (the other were Sinai) and almost every site has an heroic story of a fight.
Take Care
Gad
Tal Saki
The First “mountain” – Tal Saki.
Place of the heroic fights in Yum Kuippur war.
What left of the fight still stands to as memorials.
A view East on Syria and the Border – volcanoes
Don’t worry – Atzva is on the watch! =)
An Israeli Centurion Tank looking north.
The Entrance to the new bunker, built after Yum Kippur War.
The old bunker, were 28 soldiers fought for their life for 3 days.
The Memorial for the soldiers that fought and died in the fight on this hill.
“Look on those eyes observing you the passerby; see those faces staring you from those portraits. Those are the faces of our forever young friends, whose names we engraved in stone, after they fell in the battle, here on this hill, in the horror and heroism of the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
We survived the battles and returned to life. We have created this monument for you the passerby, to tell you the story of giving and deviation and faith, and proclaim the forever we will remember with great love our brother-in-arms, their beauty, their valor and their sacrifice.”
Mount Peres
Driving north to Mount Peres
The top of Mount Peres – This is where the Magma flew out of the Volcano!
16.09.2020 update – the carter form another side (from a patrol along the Israeli-Syrian Border)
The open for the road on top of the mountain.
A section in the mountains that shows the Scoria layers. This stones are mined and used in gardens.
The Golan Heights is the only place in Israel where you have big scale wind turbines that works.
Bental Mount
Atzva freezing on the top of Bental Mount
Looking north to Mount Hermon from the Bental Mount
Looking South to Avital Mount from the Bental mountain (We skipped Avital Mount because it is not allowed to climb on it =/ )
The coffee shop (Coffee Anan – “Cloud Coffee”) on top of the Bental Mount, and the view from within. Feels like in a sky resort =)
The Post on top of the Bental. In Yum Kippur, this was the main base of the Golan Heights.
A view East on Quneitra Syria and the Border. It is hard to see Quneitra, but the Syrian left this city ruined and built a new one behind it.
A view North on Mount Hermon. One the left you can see Merom Golan – The firs Israeli settlement in the Golan Heights.
