Modi’in Illit, Israel
Hi,
We don’t usually do it, but we took an organized tour to Modiin Illit caves, and paid for it =)
We did it because Atzva father, that works in Modiin Illit, keeps telling us about those caves and that they are all closed for the public. We thought we can get in to those caves. Too bad for us one of them was ruined and the other was closed with a massive concrete wall. Anyway, we still saw two nice caves =).
Take Care
Gad
The lecture that started the tour, by Shmulik Avidan. It was a long one (mainly because everybody had to show how much he knows).
0 cave – under the Brachfeld neighborhood. We didn’t get into it for it is small and not interesting.
1st cave – also under the Brachfeld neighborhood.
1st cave – The bottom of the cave
1st cave – Although the first thing you think about is that people brook those stalactites, it is more probably that they fell because of the blow ups for the constructions works around it.
1st cave – The cave is dying. First because once it is opened the CO2 that got in it change the atmosphere, and second because the neighborhood above it prevent water to get in and make more stalactites.
1st cave – Sitting and listening to Shmulik, with columns behind.
2nd cave – Most of the caves revealed during construction. These one was revealed during the construction of a road to a new neighborhood in Modi’in Illit.
2nd cave – The cave is ruined for its roof collapsed
2nd cave – Atzva going down to the cave.
2nd cave – Once the caves was opened, pigeons are using it for nesting. What made some places inside smell bad.
2nd cave – Drilling test. Before construction, you make drilling tests to determine the type of soil. Sometimes you find caves like that.
2nd cave – Drilling test. The white boxes are the places where the drilling head fell down, and how much.
2nd cave – impressive stalagmites
2nd cave – The roof that left over the main hall.
2nd cave – The lower level of the cave from the main hall
2nd cave – The lower level of the cave.
2nd cave – The impressive stalagmites in the main hall from below
2nd cave – The drilling holes in the floor of the main hall of the cave.
2nd cave – Gekko on the stalagmites
2nd cave – Going out of the cave.
3rd cave – Somewhere below the mass of rock and concrete of the new school.
