Hi,
If you ever had been invited to an Israeli wedding you would have noticed that the Chuppah will probably never be in time. You are asked to in 18:00 because the ceremony is in 19:00, but you realize that it will be in 21:00. What really astonish you is that nobody really care they are an hour late. Even more than that – it seems clear to anybody the ceremony will be on 20:00….
“What’s going on here?” – you will think to yourself. Don’t panic, it will be like that in every Israeli wedding you will show up to. That is how things work here – it is the Israeli wedding syndrome. You write in the invitation Chuppah at 19:00 and everybody know you mean 20:00. So why not writing 20:00? because people will show up in 21:00. Israeli wedding syndrome…
That’s how we work. The price tag says 150NIS, but it is clear you can ask for a discount in almost any small shop, even of chains. Moreover – the price is already ten percent up in advance in case you will ask for a discount. What happen if you won’t ask? well, just more profit for the seller (it is also the Mazliah system…)
You sit down in a meeting and set dates. It is clear none will stand in them, and everybody aim at a week after. And if you set the date a week later, everybody will aim for two week later.
Welcome to the Middle East lady…
Take care
Gad
