We passed this building in Carmel many time during our patrol. An industrial building with solar panels on top. Only today, as pert of our “fun day” of living the area we got inside to Herbs of Kedem factory =)
This is the factory of Herbs of Kedem, a cosmetic company that specialized in using herbs that grow in the edge of the desert. Some of those herbs are endemic for this area, but even those that can be found all over the grows different here: the big difference between the hot days and cold night, the little rain that falls and the hot direct sun at all times make them grow in stress. This stress make the herbs produce special oils that can be used for medical and cosmetics products.

One way of producing essential oils is by steaming the herbs. This tank can hold up to 200kg of herbs.
Other way of producing essential oils from herbs is by cooking them in other oil or in water.
Herbs on the producing line
Essential oils are only the top layer in the bottle, but the smell is strong for it is very concentrated.
