Hi,
Coming back from reserve duty can really lift you heart up. In the first time I came, Atzva and I went together to pick Jannaeus togther. When he first saw he start walking and cried half way from me for excitment.
Back when my Aba, or my brother in law, used to come back from reserve duty – we were so happy to see them as well as excited their assult rifle (it was a Galil).
Nowdays, and I am happy about it, we leave all the assult rifles in the armory. Not only because it one thing less to carry when you are coming back. It was a desicion taken to reduce the amount of stolen arms. In general I think the Israeli public space has too much arms. Two or three less guns on a sunday morning bus or train won’t change in the next terror attack.
I also don’t want to have a weapon in an house with kids. As much you try to hide it in a high closet, it is still more safe when it just not there.
I am still a soldier, and I need the rifle, when practicing. That why it was strange when I was walking without one in the base.
I keep remembering what happened when I come to visit my parents not long ago. And how my nepehw confused me to be a soldier like his father. His father has an army badge, just like I had 😆
My reserve duty bag, still a thing for Jannaeus. Only part of the equipment I will have…
