Who would have thought that I will find myself in the position of essential worker in this Coronavirus crisis. What do I do you ask, well you should have already know I am a construction engineer 👷….
What that has to do with fighting the Coronavirus? Well it doesn’t have nothing directly with the virus, but with the economical crisis with that will hit us soon enough.
The construction branch is apparently the locomotive of the Israeli economy, although not long ago, the Israeli High-Tech industry was owned this title.
I do not think Locomotive is the right phrase, as it pretty low efficiency, low salary and low tech industry.
But there is one thing it is leading the market with – amount of money. Due to the low interest since 2008, a lot of money was invested in apartment and houses. Stopping this industry will severely hurt the financial system in Israel.
This it the reason why we are considered essential workers – to keep the money rolling and prevent the banks from falling.
In the end most of the days I sit down in the office, makes the calculations and provide the drawing to those who built. So no real danger for me, if I keep on the rules. The workers on site are those really exposed to Coronavirus. Those are mainly Palestinians workers and Chinese workers. As always those are the poorest and weakest are sacrificed.
