Quarantine

Hi,
We knew that when we will come back from our trip to USA the kids will be send over directly to 10 days of quarantine. We even set the trip time they will be released exactly when the kindergarten starts (September 1st).

But only short time before we took off USA was announced orange country. Meaning Atzva and will have to be quarantined as well. At least they reduced the number of days to 7 (with two negative tests).

It is our first quarantine together as a family. Mindal was sent to 10 days of quarantine when a kid in her kindergarten was tested positive, and Atzva had to get in too. Atzva was send to 10 days in quarantine as she was exposed to someone at work.

But we it is not the first kind of experience we had, after all we already passed the first, second  and third lockdowns 😉. Closed withe kids at home. But back then everybody were locked inside…

We knew how it will be, and now even have the Box of Stupidity (we try to show them educational stuff) . We had to work, but Atzva was the kids entertainment crew for the kids: I set in a different room while she worked from the living room, and she got less tike during this time of the year (end of August, when all of Israel’s kids are losing their mind).

The first time I was locked in a closed place for such a long time, I was during my mandatory military reserve. We were sent off to a week in a pillbox in Gaza strip on the border fence between the Jewish settlements and Palestinian city of Rafiah. We were not allowed to leave this concrete cylinder, only to go to the attached chemical toilets (and only with an helmet and protective vest).

We found ways to pass the time. We had talks over everything (like what we have in the reserve*), and watched the blue sea and the quiet kites flying over the buildings of Rafiah. I remember a specific point it was so quiet we could have hear the whistle of the RPG missile that hit our neighbor pillbox.

The funny thing about that all situation of being in a closed pillbox, is the book I was reading. I don’t remember the book name, but it was a guy with agropobhia. The story was how a girl, he does not know, tries to make him go out of his apartment so they can install something in it. I have totally identified myself with the guy…

Take Care
Gad
