Hi,
I think the first Yum Kippur I had to sit and think why I keep it (fasting and praying) was on Lisbon, Portugal.
I don’t think I had a good conclusion back then about Yum Kippur. But I kept doing it – fasting and praying in the hotel room instead of going to the conference I was there for or just hiking in the city.
Fasting from food can be good once in a while. At least that is what they say…
But Fasting in not only from food but also from “work”, the same thing that Judaism require in any Sabbath. Back in the days, when any simple task was work (cook something or even turn on the light) it made sense. Now it is mostly fasting from electronics.
It means put aside the TV, laptop and above all the cellphone. Meaning not to communicate anyone you cannot see face to face, and to pull it out the second you are bored. You have to the FOMO and handle with it.
And for me, put aside the cellphone is now mainly fasting from work. As I find myself working 24/7 for the new building in the factory.
Take Care
Gad
P.S. i once wrote to you Yum Kippur is the bicycle holiday. Two years ago Jannaeus learned to ride his balance bikes, and this year he finally ride on his real bicycle 🚴♀️ 🙂. I, as part of the fast, don’t ride it.
