We took two days off and went down to visit Maktesh Ramon (Ramon Carter). Our first stop was at the hanging balcony over the Cater.
Lucky us there was no one there and we could sit and eat our lunch cantilevered over the carter and enjoying wonderful wind that somehow manage to easy the heat a bit.
The view is amazing, standing there looking over the cliffs that creates the walls of this huge bowl really makes you feel small.
And there is also of course the construction of this hanging balcony. I think that in our exam to get the structural engineer license we had do design a similar balcony, probably following the skywalk in the Grand Canyon.
In case you wondered – it is free, accessible all day long.
One thing we did not see in Mitzpe Ramon, the town that sits on the edge of the carter (it literally means Ramon Panoram) were the Ibex. You can see many pictures of those desert animals walking around the streets of the town, just like the cats and jackals in Tel Aviv. Atzva and Jannaeus did see one crossing the road driving around but that was the only we saw. Maybe it was too hot for them as well to walk around the streets.
