As our tour to the border triangle did not include going down to the obstacle on the Yarmouk river, we had time to visit Mukheiba tunnel. To get there we had to drive along the Israel-Jordan border fence above the Yarmouk.
The road is a closed military zone and we had to ride in a convoy with the escort of the IDF in front and on the back.
On the way we had the chance of watching the magnificent views of the Yarmouk valley. That, at least when we could watch over the heavy fence that was built along the border.
We and my brother in law brother were a bit off distructed as we were discussing my elder sister, Yoni, and her husband (which he is his elder brother).
It was nice to have the chance to see places from their other side.
Mezar creek for example. I was once running all the way down from its top to the waterfall at the bottom, the lowest point you are allowed to hike. Now I could watch the rest of the stream. At least as far as allowed by the fence – I still could not see the point it flows to the Yarmouk (there is 9m high fall).
We also had a glimpse over Jiser Shak El Bard bridge (The bridge of the Cold Creek in Arabic). It is a railway steel bridge which spans over the Yarmouk. It was holding the branch of the Hejaz railway toward Tzemach, where the Jezreel valley train line had started. It is one of many Yarmouk bridges and tunnels that were built for the railway in the Yarmouk valley for the rough topography the train had to cross.
One of those bridges is Jiser El-Hamma bridge which Atzva and I hiked to (you can read about it here), it is the longest of the railway bridges in the Yarmouk river but it had been bombed in 1946 and left untouched since then. Another one is Wadi Khalid bridge.
We also visited the longest of those tunnels (you can read about it here), which now hosts many fruit bats.
The Mukheiba tunnel we were heading at was not part of those railway tunnels. You can read about that tunnel here.
