Army man – 34th day of war

Hi,
This is the 34th day of war, which means it is my 34th day in reserve duty ever (longer than South Mount Hebron Reserve duty), and it makes me feel like an army man.

Even before the war, I was not fully aware of my kids’ schedule. It was partly because Atzva was still in Dub delivery vacation and partly because I was so into the factory construction project.

Now it is a different level – I am completely unaware of what’s going on in their day to day life. I do talks with Atzva every evening, trying to catch up with the new reality they live in. If Hamas follows the rockets schedule, like in earlier fighting rounds, who they visited and when, if they have new friends, habits, or games.

When I come back home (about once in two weeks), I spend most of my time with Jannaeus, Mindal and Dub. Playing, reading, feeding, showering, taking them to school, kindergarten, and afternoon activities.

There are army men in my age, almost 40 years old (in 6 years, they will be out and retired, ready to start their new career). And this is how army man in my age lives – barely seeing their children and wife. Living in a military base, sharing a room with more soldiers, moving from place to place, and so on.

Just as my brother in law used to be. At least now is on shifts on a close by base. But there were years my elder niece grew up by Aba and Ima as my brother in law was an army man and was barely home (working in a far away base)

Take care
Gad
