Hermonit – 42nd day of war 🧥

Hi,
We were laughing at Fatma for wearing her giraffe onesie for so many times, I just can’t admit how fun it is to wear a Hermonit.

A Hermonit is a one-piece (more like a onesie) military snowsuit named after the coldest and highest mountain in Israel – Mount Hermon. (There is a mountain in the Goaln Heights named Hermonit, but this not what the onesie is called after).

The idea is, of course, to create a warm suit that can keep the soldiers warm enough during the cold winter in Israel. The Hermonit basically looks like the Israeli military Dubbon coat and built the same way: padded nylon cover with cloth lining waterproof outer layer of filling between them isolated synthetic As you may understand, this is a warm suit, but not really a snowsuit as it will easily absorb the water.

The Hermonit is helpful for static military missions like guarding in a base or even ambush in a tank. For more active missions, such as walking, you will find the Hermonit a bit too clumsy and heavy for you use.

Today we gave each soldier of my company a Hermonit for the winter about to come. And in almost 700m above sea level, it will pretty cold in here. Everyone put them on to see if they have the right size. Because it was such a cloudy day, most of us just stayed in it for the rest of the day, enjoying the comforting feeling it gives.

Because this is a onesie coat, you can not really tell what one is wearing underneath it. The IDF orders require us to wear uniforms at any time, but as you can understand, that does not always happen when one is wearing a Hermonit. There are many stories of commanders finding their soldiers, has only underwear below the snowsuit, and sometimes not even that..

Take Care
Gad
