As a constructor I have done many field walks and field reports in my life, but this is the first time I have done an apartment field report. And not on just apartment, our apartment (I guess that is a subject for a different post, that I planned to write but the past half a year since October 7th had changed my schedule). I took an After in drove back home to look on our future house.
This is a new apartment we bought in a new building in the neighborhood we had been living in for the past 8 years. In the matter of fact, as Atzva does field walk on soil engineering and I on the structure itself – none of us really have much knowledge in field walk on the finishes of the building. Lucky us we have Atzva father, who was a contractor for many years we asked him to join in.
I was amazed to see the amount of defects on the apartment. As Atzva kept walking around in our apartment field report, saying: “We paid good money for this apartment, how come there are some many defects”. The contractor kept saying he will fix it, and he is not yet done.
What I was amazed of, was that there were some big issues – such as walls that appear on the drawing but are missing, walls that are dislocated, hanging gypsum ceiling that does not appear on the drawings, etc.
In the end – the contractor will have to invest pretty big amount of money to fix those defects. It was probably cheaper if they had a good inspector on site. But this is how the construction done in Israel, in low quality.
