Hi,
7th October Hamas attack on Gaza surroundings settlements raised the feeling of 2nd Holocaust in many people.
The visit to Nova music festival memorial site, which one said it feels like visiting Ponary massacre memorial site, gives a clear view of how this feeling is coming from.
Then came the testimony of Yasmin, Be’eri massacre survivor. At one point, she raised the fact she is a 3rd generation to Holocaust survivors (like I am). And from this point she said she acted as she is standing against the Nazis as her grandparents did.
It did feel me the way we used to sit in the Scouts youth movement around an Holocaust survivor and listen to their testimony on how they managed to survive the concentration camps and the Nazis regime.
I do not want to underestimate the October 7th Hamas attack, the horrible acts done by those terrorists. But on the same breath I feel that compering this attack to Holocaust is underestimating the Holocaust. Those both are horrible times, but the magnitude of the Holocaust (by time and numbers) is in a different scale. It was, and hope will be, a one time history event in which the Nazis wish to terminate each and every Jew from the face of Earth.
What surprised me, was that even Holocaust survivors are describing it as 2nd Holocaust. It was the feeling of security of living here, that broke down on October 7th events that made them feel this way. The fact that even here in the Jewish country of Israel they might need to pack themselves and run away. Or hide from Nazis that wish to slaughter them – that what made them the feeling of 2nd Holocaust.
Take Care
