The Sniper – 231rd day of war

Hi,
The first injury of Battalion was hit by a sniper. He was on a different section of the city of Gaza, as we have our own threat of a sniper from our side of Gaza.

For several weeks our company, and other companies in the infantry battalions in the 2nd Carmeli brigade, are under the threat the a sniper shoting.

The problem of a sniper threat is you do not have much to do against it. They can shot it from a distance – so you cannot really recognize where it is from and react to it in a proper way.

You cannot defend yourself against it, because we walks during the day in open area with buildings in the distance. It is a classic ambush for a sniper.

Once you are in a building, and it is clear for them when you are in it, he can wait until you will show up in the window or in the door frame to knock you down.

What you have to do is to always keep it in your mind – when you walk, sit, drink and eat. The next step is for you to take cover, but in order to do so, you need it to be aware of it. It need to like a second nature for you – to think of the barrel of that sniper weapon aiming at you, and if he can hit you.

When you understand he can hit you, you better move – find a better spot to hide yourself from it. And if you cannot (because there is no better spot, or becausetou need to do something else) you better keep moving and fast to avoid the shot.

Lucky for us, he did not kill anyone yet and only managed to make injuries for the soldiers he managed to shot.

Take care
Gad
