War routine – 383rd day of war

Hi,
The war routine in Ukraine was something I was thinking about. That was during the time Ukraine was in a war, and were not yet in it. We were not getting daily reports from there. Does they all keep living in the subway tunnels, as they were doing in the beginning of the war? Or does it all back to normal in home front, and only close to the Russian frontier they getting bomb daily? We do get some reports when Russia bombs Kyiv once in a while – do they run the shelters once a week and living normal during the rest of the time?

Our wars used to be short – The longest one was probably the Independence war which war about 1 year and 7 months. But that was long time ago, about 75 years ago, some generations ago. The longest war during during my life time was operation protective edge – which was about 2 months.

But that is not completely correct. There were long time of security campaigns in which part of the county was in war: War of Attrition (between the years 1967 and 1970), Security zone campaign (between the years 1982-2000). Somehow those are different from the current routine. The war us far in the south or far in the north, but the life in Israel were the same. Apart from the families of the fallen soldiers who got the death messages.

Now I know how a war routine looks like here, and probably the same in Ukraine. Most of the time you live your normal life back home, in most of Israel. That is of course if you do not have a soldier in front line – then you are have to take of your life and not think about the front line every minute. Atzva, my wife, has to handle our three kids in addition to that.

You do run to shelter or protected area. The more north you live the more common the missiles are. And if you used to live along Lebanon border, you are probably evacuated for the past year as the settlements along the border are empty.

Take Care
Gad
