Mount Dov ⛰️ – 390th day of war

Hi,
Mount Dov is a western spur of mount Hermon an called Jabel Ros in Arabic (meaning mount heads). Now, in Lebanon, we got a chance to look on the full mountain from the west. You can easily see the line of IDF military posts along the mountain ridge: Gladyola, Dalya, Hadas and Shion.

The mountain is closed military area and in dispute between Israel and Lebanon. Both Lebanon and Syria were created under the French mandate after Sykes and Picot agreement. But the french did not clearly set the border between the two countries. Some of the maps show the mountain to be part of Syria, and therefore part of Golan Heights. Other maps shows the area to be part of Lebanon.

Hezbollah uses the dispute on the area as one of the claims of holding its power in Lebanon (like Ghajar village), although Israel had retreated from Lebanon on 2000 as the terror organization claimed until then.

They refer to the area in dispute as Shebaa Farms, after the nearby Lebanese village, and wish to liberate it from the allegedly Israeli occupation. Even before this war, Hezbollah used to bomb the area from time to time, claiming there are no citizens there and he only attack IDF soldiers.

In Israel the mount is called after Captain Dov Rodberg, who fell in action in 09.08.1970. Dov (aka Dobi) was a company commander in Golani Brigade. On August 3rd he volunteered to rescue an injured soldier from his company on Mount Dov. An artillery shell fell near him on his way and injured him in the throat and in his right leg. Dobi died 6 days later in the hospital.
