Judean desert, Israel

Hi,

I think said that it the best way:”Family on wheels.”

My elder sister, Yoni, and her husband, Dior, came back from a weekend vacation in Eilat.

My younger brother, Nathan, just came back from a 3 days vacation and hiking in the north of Israel. He and his girlfriend, Nili, had couple of nights in a zimmer. The first day they spent in Kziv stream and the Monfourt castle. The second day they spent in Rosh Hanikra the same place I’ve been to two weeks ago.

I just came back from Barcelona. I landed very early in the morning and while driving I could have seen how much rain is going down. When I wake up it’s was noon, and Fatma my younger sister just come back. We packed our bags and went to see the floods in the rivers of the Judean desert. We come back had a nice dinner, saw a ,movie (“The book of Eli” – nice, but not so good). I wake up and went help my friend Eli (You met him in the Bolinat. And no he doesn’t have a book…:-) to pack, he’s moving to Tel Aviv, he’ll keep working in Jerusalem, That is good for me. That means he’ll work for Sunday till Tuesday and will have weekends we can hike around the country (boy, I probably sound so gay….:-).

I come back and picked up Nathan and Fatma for another round in the streams of the desert. We had been to Qelt stream, had a nice view to the Dead sea and Jericho, then we went up to see the Hyrcania castle that is dated to time of the king of Judea Alexander Jannaeus.

The country is flooded and that’s good. Not the floods, but the rain. I think the best indicator is the dam we have near Jerusalem, it’s the first time in years that is full and the water are spilling off. Nathan had a nice benefit from the weather – The valley that leads to his base is flooded, so he’ll have to come back to the army only tomorrow afternoon and not in the morning.

It’s the holiday of Purim, in that holiday we we wear customs and drink until you don’t the difference between you right and your left. There is a difference in the date of the holiday if you celebrate it in a city with walls around it or not. The old city of Jerusalem has walls so they celebrate in Sunday evening, Haifa doesn’t have walls so they will celebrate in Saturday evening, Because on Saturday evening I take the bus from Jerusalem to Haifa – I will miss the celebrations on both of the cities :-(.

There are riots in the City of Hebron. There are two reasons. The first is that 18 years ago a Jewish doctor shot down and killed 20 Palestinians in an act of terror in Hebron 20 years ago. The second is that the PM decided to include Hebron in a new hike he’s planning to make that include sites of heritage.

Take care
Gad
