Riding the bike with Jannaeus

Hi,

Bikes (either electrical or not) are the most practical way to get around the city. Put a seat in front and a seat at the back, and you can take half of the family. And if Ima joins, with her own bikes you can also take the dog 🙂

But for me the long rides are more for fun. I don’t take Jannaeus to the nursery on the bike, we walk there on foot.

A friend gave me the chair sits on the front. I prefer this one over the one when your toddler sitting on the back. First of all – He can look forward and see where you are going, and not look at your back (or your ass in the worst case). I must say that I had some thoughts about. Given that me elder sister, Yoni, broke her leg when she was little while my father took her on a ride on his bicycle. But after realizing that she was just sitting on the top tube or on the handlebar, and not on a chair (1980’s who thought of chairs for kids?), I decided to give it a try.

I didn’t use the chair and didn’t ride along with Jannaeus because my headset was too low. It doesn’t seem possible to add another ring and lift the stem. I checked out if I can change bike with my Aba, or with my brother, Nathan, but it seems their bikes has the same problem. Finally, after about 4 months, in which I thought to just buy new bikes that will fit the seat, I managed to make some retrofit in my bikes, so I can use it.

I use my bikes daily going to the train station and back. It is not a long ride, about 2 km, on roads. I also have another bikes waiting in my destination station to ride to the factory and back. My friend, biking about 120km a a week, look at me and ask why I carry the helmet with me if I bike so little. That it isn’t worth it. “First”, I said “It is worth it. And second, the fact that Jannaeus always see me with my helmet on the bike teach him that you must put your helmet.” That’s is the way to educate. Not lecture the toddler he must wear an helmet, just wear it each and every time ( also for yourself). And you know what? It worked! When Jannaesus want me to take him for a ride (I usually do it once a week at weekends), he point his helmet and ask for it, so we go out and ride 🙂
