Hi,
The Acropolis is something. Sitting on top of Athens what give a panorama view all over the city.
From construction point view the place is also a miracle. The buildings roof are made of pieces of flat marble stones 1m on 2m in dimensions. Those are spanned between the stone beams sitting on the concrete columns. When you realize the weight of that roof, those massive stone columns seems right in place.🙂
Marble is a beautiful building material, but it does has its disadvantages. Using it for stairs, might not be such a good idea for example. It kind of slippery and unsafe. And building new staircases with marble only on the edge it is really something you should think more about before setting up 🤔.
The all site sits on flat area on top of an hill. In order to get this flat area, supporting walls are surrounding the hill making it well defended citadel. An iron cannon on top of the hill shows it was used as a fortress.
We went up late to the Acropolis and it was a smart desicon in an hot day as today. Atzva made to way up bravely 🙂. Jannaeus is in the stage he likes steps (we spent the mornings in Chorfeto going up and the hotel staircase), so he enjoyed the place as much as I did 😁. We wait till the site was about to closed and earned the views of the sunset over Athens. We also enjoyed the view of Greek soldiers marching to the big flag and saluting it (we used to do it everyday as a soldiers in the training base) 💂
I do advice you to buy tickets online. It would have saved us about an hour of standing in the line.
Take care
Gad

The theatre of Dionysos Eleuthereus
Odeion of Herodes Atticus – the all place was covered with a wood roof, just think of the complexability of that kind of structure!
