Hi,
I totally understand why Atzva liked those “Storage hunters” Youtube videos. They take a glimpse on an abandoned garage or storage place, and then buy it in an auction hoping to get lucky and got a treasure 🙂.
Open the boydem in a new rented or bought house is pretty much the same. It is the most exciting part in cleaning the new apartment before you get in.
Let me explain you a bit about this Boydem thing. It is a storage place in old apartments that were built until around 1980’s. A middle roof was added, usually above the toilets/ bathroom/ corridor, making more room for rare used objects.
The word came from Yiddish, that borrowed from German and shortened it. Dachboden means attic roof.
You usually need an high chair or even a ladder to get up there. And even then you cannot get all the way in (unless you willing to crawl in… 😏)
But this exactly why the Boydem is such a wonderful place to find old stuff. Things people have pushed up there and forgot about, or stopped using it and left it there instead of throwing it. And now they are old treasures. Who knows maybe you get lucky and get rich 🙂
Take care
Gad
