Arab Boycott of Israel

Hi,
The sanctions on Russia and the risen oil price reminds me the boycott the Arab countries set on Israel during the years. It started even before Israel Independence and last till those days with lower effect on our life.

The most remembered act of this boycott was crisis the 1973 oil crisis, which started due to Yom Kippur war (between Israel and the Arab countries). Middle East oil producing countries had reduced their production in order to punish the westren world for supporting Israel in the war. It made the oil price jump from 2$ to 40$ a barrel, multiplying its cost 20 times! (well now we had the coronavirus crisis so the barrel price went from 0$ to 108$). The crisis made the westren world to move to smaller more efficent cars, maybe the sanctions on Russia will also help to fight the Global Warming.

I was a child when the boycott slowly got lossen. Mainly due to Oslo agreements and the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan (The peace agreement with Egypt on 1977 had only small effect on the boycott).

We have watched more and more japanese cars getting on the roads and taking the place of popolar Subaru DL. We went to eat on the first branch of Mc’Donalds in Israel* (and Nathan poked everything he ate).

But the main difference between the sanctions on Russia and the Boycott on Israel – the sunctions on the Israel economy came after the Arab countries attacked Israel by surprise, led by the Arab countries and meant to teach the world not support Israel. Now the sunctions are led by the west world againt Russia to make it stop its war against Ukraina.
