Hi,
The security zone in south Lebanon was created after Israel had invaded South Lebanon and withdrew back. But IDF did not withdraw all the way back to Israel-Lebanon border, but kept a strip occupied inside Lebanon.
The security zone was kept to prevent terrorists from threatening north of Israel, as happened in the years before the operation (and what is now happening on the north). That meant IDF soldiers had to stay and occupy the area.
It was done by holding the area. First by patroling the area and setting ambushes for the terrorists. But as time passed by, the IDF was pushed into the posts, holding back to defense. Those posts slowly became small fortress, accessible only by armored convoies thretean on the routes or by helicopters (what led to helicopters disaster).
If you want to understand how it was like on those posts and in the last days of IDF inside Lebanon, you can watch Beaufort. The movie tells the story of the soldiers on the Beaufort post (inside the crusaders castle) on the last days of the IDF in the secuirty zone.
It feels we are going back to the same solution here in the Gaza strip. Holding Netzarim corridor start looks the same: separates posts inside hostile area, bombarded daily, accessible only by convoies (the corridor, as the settlement before, was set to split the strip).
I just hope this corridor will be held for 20 years and cost the lives of hundreds of IDF soldiers until we leave it, as Lebanon secuirty zone did.

A convoy out of the strip. For now those are done by light vechiles, bit can end up to be on armored vehicles just like in South Lebanon.
