It has been years since I had to lay down an infantry ambush. Around 20 years to be more accurate, since my mandatory military duty.
Back then we had to lay down on the fence around Gush Katif settlements inside Gaza strip to prevent penetration of terrorists to the settlements. I guess I would not have remembered we have done it, if it was not for one specific time. We were all so tired, we just fell a sleep in the spot. Lucky us the tank crow that was supposed to replace us stop far enough not to run over us, but close enough to wake us up (you do not want to be laying couple of meters away from a running tank…).
Now with the current situation in the north with Hezbollah, we are back laying down on the bushes. The first couple of nights were cold and rainy, and we were not well prepared for them. People came back socking wet, and we are all still trying to recover from the sickness we got.
The main problem with those kind of infantry ambush is that they are boring. You are basically looking around waiting for something to happen. Most of the time nothing happens. You are not allowed to hear music (so the enemy will not hear you), bring your cellphone (the enemy might locate it, and it spread light), read a book (again light) and you left with the only option – to talk.
As you might know me till now, I am not a conversation person – but as this is the only option, I talks. I think I did wrote to you once those conversion are endless and you find yourself arguing what kind of Pokemon you would have been or very intimate details of your life (do you spank during sex?)
