The judicial reform, or better say the judicial overhaul, got to one of its one items – Bagatz, Israel supreme court.
The court has to deal with the question of whether the law reduces the use of the Reasonability argument by Bagatz. Yep, it has to discuss the responsibilities of the court itself. It is no like the Knesset, the Legislature do not have to deal with the salaries of the Knesset member (yep, they set how much fhey will earn. How like they are…)
But it is more complicated, as the law is directly aimed at Bagatz as a judicial authority. The law was passed as a basic law of Israel. In order to reduce the judicial authority has on the lwas the Knesset passes.
The problem here is, and I wrote it before, the Knesset does not really work as a separate authority apart from the Israeli government. The majority of the Knesset members are in the coalition, and about a quarter are government members. Meaning that everything done in the Knesset is ruled by the government (the only way the government can be impeached by the Knesset, is the government)
The speaker of the Knesset declared that “it will not acquiesce to its trampling,”. You can now understand how empty that phrase is. And just to understand who this man is, Amir Ohana is gay and he has children. But the only authority that can support him on his status is Bagatz.
