Our company had finally hit the news, and not in a good way. As we are on defense battle, the only way we can hit the news is if something bad would happen – and it did. Lucky for us it did not end with injuries or killed soldiers or citizens.
Hezbollah had released a video of a Kornet anti-tank missile that launched at one our team (or platoon) commander. I was at our battalion war room at the time it happened (making a command for a mission we might go out to), and it was scary to hear my brother in arms yell out “I got hit by an anti-tank missile”.
First, we tried to figure out, if we have injuries or a killed soldier. We all took a deep breathe a sigh of relief when he reported they are all good (or we call it “Green in the eyes”).
From that moment on, the officers in war room tried to figure our what is the best way to pull them back. Apparently there was no clear orders for this operation so it was not clear who need to be sent to where (the kind I was sitting and writing). In some point we started calling for the soldiers cellphones to see if they where pulled out of there.
The artillery was called out to help to provide the fire coverage for the force retreat, but no clear targets where provided. What means many shells where fired without clear benefit.
Apart from the fact this commander did not supply a clear order for the mission, he just did not act like a soldier. Just look on the way he stands, all visible (0:24 in the video) in front of Hezbollah rocket launcher on Lebanon border.
