On December 8th 2024, Israel took control over the Hermon Crown. This is the name that was given to mount Hermon summit, (which in Israel we also used to call the Syrian Hermon). The term comes from Ze’ev Jabotinsky poem, which he wrote while in the British prison.

That came after the fall of Syria into the hands of the rebels and the overthrown of Syrian Dictator Bashar al-Assad two weeks ago. You may say the overthrown had ended the Syrian Civil war that lasts for about 14 years since 2011. But for Israel that means there is no one who takes responsibility for this area. On December 12, Israel claimed (Bibi) it will stay there until there is another solution that will keep the security of Israel.

The Hermon, which also refereed to as the The eyes of the state of Israel, overlooks Damascus and Lebanon. It has great significant as an intelligence post which allows gives a great view around.

The unit that took control of the place, without a fight, is the Shaldag unit (an IAF elite unit that also specializes in clandestine command and intelligence operations behind the enemy lines. Like the British SAS unit that the unit is based on).

On Decmber 2024, it was reported  2 out of the 7 the new posts inside Syria are on the Hermon Mountain (on in the Hermon Crown). Those 2 posts gives the IDF, as I wrote above, a view over Damascus (the distance from the crown of the Hermon Mountain to Damascus is 30 to 40 km, depending on where you are measure to)
