January 17th 2014 – Mas’ade, Israel – Snow

Hi,
We had a snow cold weekend =)

The cold came from Eastern Europe and the temp drop. Here in Haifa (500 meters above sea level) we had 0 Celsius degrees! Along the coasts the temp was around 2 Celsius degrees =).

Those temperature are low enough to snow to fall instead of rain. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough precipitation. Snow in most of Israel is a rare event. Golan Heights and Mount Hermon usually gets snowed at least once a year (areas above 1000 meters above sea level)- I am talking about snow that catch on the ground. That is also true about the highest mountains of Upper Galilee, Judaean Mountains and Samaria Mountains (1000 meters above sea level).

Any snow below those heights is pretty rare, and we love it =). I am happy about  what we got, but there was a chance we could have got it also on the shores =). That thing happened only once since the Independence of Israel – in the 1950 winter.

Take Care
