Hi,
It is such a simple solution, it makes me to stop, stand and look on it each time I climb to the roof and watch it – The Solar Water Heating System.

That’s simple – We live in a country with a lot of sun, and we all need hot water. So instead of wasting electricity on heating the water, that system use the heat of the sun.

Of course you need boiler for rainy days (our is combined into the water tank of the Solar Water Heating System), but just to explain how efficient it is: Atzva and I got into our home in the end February and didn’t knew we have a problem with our boiler until a week ago! The Solar Water Heating System provided us hot water for 9 months!

I had to go up and check what’s wrong with our boiler and realized another thing about those thing – they hold only on gravity forces. Most are not attached to the roof and just stand there. For an engineer that specialized in Earthquake engineering that looks weird to me, for only the wind seems sometimes to be strong enough to make the water tanks to fly =)

Some of them do fly off the roof, but it is so rare that it become a news event =)

Take Care

The view of the Haifa bay from the roof, other solar collectors and scary fact there is no fence to hold you from falling! =o Solar Water Heating System

12112014-05 The reason why our boiler didn't work - the cables were disconnected and covered with corrosion. Solar Water Heating SystemThe reason why our boiler didn’t work – the cables were disconnected and covered with corrosion.

And that was why it would not have worked, even if the cables were connected.   The heating element was covered with limescale from years of use.
