Hi,
Not long ago Ma’ariv Bridge was demolished, in order to allow the building one of Tel-Aviv light railway underground stations. The junction, and later on the bridge, were called over the building . And now the building ,Beit Ma’ariv is demolished.
Ma’ariv (Meaning “it getting into dusk, and also a name for a Jewish pray at that time of the day), is a Newspaper. When the building was constructed, it was the biggest daily newspaper in Israel. But the newspaper has left the building 6 years ago, and it has been standing there waiting for its demolition.
The building is being demolished to room space for a new high rise building in his place – about 42 stories high. It was originally planned to be 60 stories high, but it is directly in line with the takeoff and landing lanes of planes of Ben-Gurion airport. The location cannot be better – it is the center of Tel-Aviv, just above Carlebach light rail station.
Some say it was better to preserve the building: It has significant importance in the history of journalism in Israel. It has different architecture than those built in Tel Aviv during the 1930’s and 1940’s. It is much more important than other building from that time, mainly residential, that Tel Aviv municipality demanded to keep.
Beit Ma’ariv at end of construction at 1957. Carlebach, which was the newspaper editor back then, set down with the architect (Ya’akov Ben Sira) day and nigth to see that the building will fit his demands. The street and the light rail station are called over Carlebach.
