Hi,
I hate to buy new things. I mean, it does make me feel good when I buy them, but I think on the money I spent and don’t dell comfortable. This can be said mainly on electronic devices – in that case you have to buy a new cellphone or computer only because someone change the requirements. My computer, for example, is only 5 years old. nothing really change in electronic sheets, the calculation program I use is pretty old So why buy a new one?
So I decided to try Ubuntu, which is Linux based OS. One of its main advantages is it can easily fitted to the hardware of the computer. It can be used on servers, old computers or new bought tablets and cellphones. But, it works different than windows, what means that many programs written for Windows won’t work. If all you do is to which surf the web, watch movies, write a document, use a calc sheet and make presentations – it won’t be a problem. Because there a special programs written for Linux. But There are ways to work through it to emulate Win environment or emulate it. Unfortunately it didn’t work for my two main programs I working with DWF reader and SAP2000. That was the first problem.
Second – I realized that what really slowed my computer wasn’t the operating system, it was the software. Mainly/Firefox and Dropbox and those programs will consume a lot of resources also on Linux.
So I decide on going back to windows and at least change it to 64bit. Then I came across a big problem with the partition: Ubuntu overwrite the existing file system, that because its writers understand it might installed on a computer that had a different operating system (such as windows). Windows does not do it, that because its writers doesn’t believe there are other operating systems. So I had to work hard, and what saved my computer was Atzva computer Boot device…
By the way – This is also the reason I still have my old Deuter backpack although I have a new one that Hanna (my little sister) bought me.
My Dell Latitude E6410 – around 7 tears old. The screen is sometimes gone black and white, but it still works =) may be it will work better with Ubuntu…
My Trans Alpine Deuter bag – around 8 years old, if not more… as you can see it has to maintained but I love it =)
