Every couple of years it snows in Jerusalem.
To get snow we need the air to go over land to keep it cold, but also over the sea so it will get wet. Most of the time it too much to each side – too cold or too wet.
The chronica of Jerusalem snow games is known a(and this part of the city that still itself as a city under siege): some forecast is talking about some snow in center mountains in about week from now. Couple of days later the whole country is in madness about the snow in Jerusalem. Another four days and everything is ready for the Big white: salt in storage, the police in place, Shovels and trucks are ready.
My prefered weather website 02WS also called YeruShamaim (a Portmanteau of the words Jerusalem and and Sky in Hebrew), cannot stand the load of visitors. Although it is the most conservative weatherman – but that is why I like him, he doesn’t give you false hopes of white blanket over Jerusalem.
And then…
Nothing happens –
In Jerusalem. Around Jerusalem, In Hebron (200m higher) and part of Ramalla (about the same height), Har Adar A lot happens – as they are covered with this white drug.
Either the air is not cold and the city got just cold rain, or not enough water in the clouds and we got freezing winds. The air that is cold enough is the air from Russia, but it does not have enough rain with it.
We just started this year Jerusalem snow games 🙂. And you know what? This weekend Russia president, Putin will visit Israel. Maybe he will bring the cold air with him, it seems we have enough rain this winter….😏
